Hon. Elemide Charges Journalists On Objectivity

A member representing Odeda State Constituency at the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon Daisi Elemide has challenged journalists to be guided by the ethics of the profession.

The lawmaker said this while playing host to the Executive members of Nigeria Union of Journalists Ogun State Council, led by Comrade Soji Amosu, who paid him a courtesy call. 

He commended media practitioners in the state for keeping the people abreast with developments in the State and the country, adding that the role of the media as the watchdog of the society must be carried out with fairness and objectivity.

"We are very lucky in the State to have a media friendly governor who is ready to work side by side with journalists in the state.

“I want to be pointblank to say that the governor of Ogun state, Prince Dapo Abiodun, is a press friendly personality. He loves the press and values the importance and contributions of the press towards the development of the state” he stated.

According to him, as a politician, my coming into politics has in spite of been born into it, divine. I am not an outgoing type, but because of the love people have for me, and based on divine mercy, I found myself in politics, but my goal and aspiration has been how to better the lots of my people".

Speaking on the forthcoming local government elections in the State, Hon Elemide urged electorates to chose right people into the various offices at local government level.

He said the local government remains the nearest government to the people, the people should come out in their large number and cast their votes to the right candidates so that the dividend of democracy can get to the grass roots.

" As our governor is working in the State to ensure that he transform all parts of the state, we must ensure that we put the right person at the helm of affairs in the local government also so that the synergy can benefit the masses".


“I therefore solicit for your support in your reportage of government including assembly activities to ensure we all work as a team to support the government of the day. 

"On my part, I assure you of my readiness  to work with the leadership of the NUJ to ensure you succeed,”.


Earlier, Chairman of NUJ, Ogun state Council, Comrade Soji Amosu assured him that under his leadership, journalists will continue to be objective and constructive in their criticism.

“We are known to challenge the government but under my watch, we will always be constructive in our challenge,” he said.

He thanked Hon. Elemide for the warm reception and various empowerment program and support to members of his Constituency, saying that as people's representative, he had proved to the people that he is into politics to better their lots.
