Residents of Oba Oke Community , Aregbe Abeokuta,Ogun State were yesterday jolted when some people believed to religion fundamentalists caused confusion in the town.
Shops were hurriedly put under lock and key as the residents
scampered for safety with the presence of the suspected fundamentalists who wielded dangerous weapons.
They were in the community,searching for a middle aged man,whose name was given as Temitope Akanbi,a Pastor of a Pentecostal Church.
Pastor Temitope was said to have jettisoned Islam for Christianity,without the approval of his father,a leading Islamic Cleric in the State .
Sources revealed that the men ,who were all masked, caused commotion,as they destroyed property of notable Christian leaders in the community who they accused of supporting Temitope.
The ravaging men,it was gathered,wounded some innocent residents who were later rushed to a nearby hospital in the area,as the efforts of a combined team of Police officers and local vigilance group,to quel the unrest could not immediately put the situation under control.
As at the time of this report,the Oba Oke Community still wore desolate look as residents who had scampered for safety ,refused to return home for fear of possible attack by the men who,it was learnt,insisted on getting their victim dead or alive.
Reacting , the Vice Chairman of the Community Development Association,Mr Kunle Sowole,told Journalists who thronged the community ,that the action of the men was worrisome.
"We are yet to recover from the shock that we were plunged into" he said ,calling on the Police to assist the People of the area in getting to the root of the matter.
