Lagos State Command of Nigeria Police have foiled a plan by some individuals to host a same-sex wedding.
They have therefore arrested 76 suspects in connection with the development.
The state Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin disclosed this while parading the suspects before journalists at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi
He said out of the 76 suspects, 59 are males with 21 said to have confessed to being homosexuals, adding that 17 were said to be on the run.
He said, “They were arrested at Lekki along Aja, Lagos State while holding a homosexual birthday and they had plans to hold a same-sex wedding before our men raided the scene.
“Fifty-nine males were arrested, 21 wilfully confessed to being homosexuals and 17 were on the run but I can assure you that they will soon be arrested.
“Those arrested will be charged to court to answer for their crime which is on social vice; a crime in Lagos State.”
"We are on the trail of others who escaped and very soon, the long arm of the law will catch up with them.
In the same development, the Delta State Police Command has announced that it arrested over 100 gay suspects carrying out a gay wedding ceremony at a hotel in the state.
Announcing their arrest on Facebook, the state police said it would parade the suspects shortly.
“Delta State Command has arrested over a hundred gay suspects in a hotel carrying out a gay wedding ceremony. We will be going live shortly on Facebook to parade the said suspects,” it captioned.
Recall that since the anti-gay law was passed in 2014, homosexuals have been arrested and paraded by security operatives in the country.
On 31st of December 2021, Police cracked down on homosexuals in a hidden brothel in Isolo, Lagos.
19 young people were in 2022 arrested in Kano for allegedly attending a same-sex wedding.
