A victim of stray bullet from a yet to be identified police officer in Abeokuta on July 2018, Mr. Kamol Ganiyu has pleaded with the Ogun State Government to support him financially, so that he can treat his injured leg to be able to walk and live normally again.
Ganiyu made the plea today at the Magistrate Court 1, Isabo, Abeokuta, while appearing before the Ogun Judicial Panel of Investigation set up to look into complaints of victims on Police Brutality, Human Rights Violations and Extra-Judicial Killings by security operatives within the State.
"I need government's support because in the x-ray I took, it was revealed that my joint has been damaged, and a huge amount is needed to fly me out for adequate treatment", Ganiyu said.
The petitioner added that after the incident, "the Police officers called me to Eleweran Police station, offered me N250,000 and asked me to sign that I would not pursue the case in court which I refused".
Presenting his case before the Panel, the petitioner said, "I was driving and right under Ibara bridge in Abeokuta, I was hit by a bullet, which affected my right leg till today".
Responding, the Chairman, Ogun Judicial Panel of Investigation, Hon. Justice Solomon Olugbemi said that a total of 207 medical bill receipts, 8 photographs, cloth with blood stain, as well as the car with bullet hole were inspected and marked as evidence as presented by the petitioner.
