Abiodun approves construction of 12 new roads in 3 Senatorial districts

Ogun state government said it has approved 12 new roads for construction across the three senatorial districts of the state. 

Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the weekly executives meeting, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ade Akinsanya and his Information counterpart, Alh Waheed Odusile said the roads will join other construction ones going on accros the state.


Works Commissioner, Engr. Akinsanya noted that, work had stopped at other ongoing road projects in the state due to attack on the contractors handling those projects by the EndSARS protesters.


He said as soon as the crisis across the country is subdue, contractors would move back to the sites. 

According to him, the state government is discussing with the federal government to take possession of the roads which include, Lagos-Abeokuta-Sango-Ota road, Atan -Owode -Idiroko road to ameliorate the suffering of the people on the roads. 

"The exco has approved 12 new roads for construction across the three senatorial districts of the state. 

Other projects going on in the state have been given palliative to make it motorable for road users. For instance, the Lagos/Abeokuta, Sango-Ota are federal roads, but that has not stopped the state government from repairing those roads. 

"The roads are in bad shape, but that does not stop the state for providing palliative. The contractors were unable to move materials to site due to the protest.


"But on permanent solution, Prince Dapo Abiodun has given us the marching order to determine how much will cost to build the roads. Presently, the Governor is talking to FG to take possession of the road."

According to the Commissioner, the 12 new roads are Sagamu-Ore Interchange, Rehabilitation/Construction of Ilisan market road, rehabilitation of Inner road,  Itori junction junction -Total road in Ewekoro local government, construction of Joju road in Ado-Odo Ota, Olomore junction and Sanni off Lafenwa in Abeokuta. 

Others are; Sagamu junction -Iperu roundabout, Reconstruction of Ago-Iwoye -Oru-Ijebu-Igbo road, Reconstruction of Orile-Oko road, reconstruction of Ilashe-Koko-Alari road in Ipokia local government, reconstruction of Somorin-Kemta-Idi-Aba road among others. 

Also speaking, the Ogun state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Waheed Odusile explained that, the approved roads were on request of community leaders in the state. 

Odusile added that, the governor was passionate about the roads, saying many suburb towns in the state which has never witness any developments in terms of infrastructure will begin to enjoy dividends of democracy. 

He therefore assured residents of Ota, Akute, Alagbole of relief adding by that government is ready to complete all ongoing projects in the state.

2. 1.2km Ilishan Market Road in Ikenne LGA.

3. 2.0km Itori Junction-Total Road in Ewekoro LGA.

4. 1.3km Joju Road in Ado-Odo Ota LGA.

5. 3.41km Olomore Junction-Sanni Road, Abeokuta North LGA.

6. 5.9km Sagamu Junction-Iperu Roundabout Road in Sagamu/Ikenne LGA.

7. 3.0km Iperu Roundabout-Ode Road in Ikenne LGA.

8. 7.0km Ago Iwoye-Oru-Ijebu Igbo Road in Ijebu North LGA.

9. 5.7km Somorin-Kemta, Idi-Aba Road in Odeda LGA 

10. 3.8km Ilashe-Koko-Alari Road in Ipokia LGA

11. 8.0km Orile Oko Road in Remo North LGA

12. 2.3km Obafemi Awolowo Way-Mada-Takete in Remo North.

In the same vein, the following roads were previously approved by the Council:

1. 4.65km Akute-Denro-Ishasi in Ifo LGA 

2. 2.35km Olusegun Osoba Toyin Street in Ifo LGA 

3. 3.2km Molipa Expressway in Ijebu Ode  LGA
