No fewer than 5 persons were yesterday, killed in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, as rival cult groups Eiye confraternity and Black-axe confraternity, engaged in each other.
The fight heightened tension in the State, as Fear gripped Residents.
At Apata area, of Ibadan Oyo State, traders and shop owners scampered for safety as suspected cultists shot dead five Men belongings to the rival cult groups members.
A book shop owner who pleaded for anonymity said over 17 persons ran into her shop when the shooting started and they laid on the floor to avoid being hit by stray bullets.
Another witness said policemen later stormed the area and started arresting innocent persons.
A security source said the renewed killings since last March this year was linked to the battle for supremacy.
Another eyewitness told our correspondent that violence broke out when rival cult group, numbering about 15 lead by one Akeem Olajide, engaged in a gun battle for supremacy, resulting in five death.
The police in Apete, Division, led by the Divisional police officer, were said to have confirmed the incident and recovered their bodies and conveyed it to mortuary in State hospital Adeoyo, Ring Road Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.
