Ogunlowo, Ogun State Police Boss unveils Gateway Shield.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has changed the face of policing in Ogun State as anybody can now access the police for immediate assistance under crisis.

A digital safety and intelligence app designed to give residents of the state swift and direct access to police services in cases of emergency, especially where reaching a Police Station may be difficult, has now been launched in the state.

Tagged 'Gateway Shield', the ingenious initiative of the IGP is a high tech innovation that brings immediate police succour to traumatized citizens anywhere in the state at any time of the day.

Gateway Shield is a security device that could be accessed in three different ways depending on which one is most convenient for the user. It is an app that is downloadable on playstore, it could also be accessed by any phone by dialing its toll free number 08000009111 and it could also be reached by going directly to the web to search for www.the gatewayshield.com which will give you the prompts to follow.

Unveiling the initiative to the press at the Ogun State Police Command, Eleweiran, in Abeokuta, the state capital during the week, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Lanre Ogunlowo said the new initiative reflects IGP Egbetokun's commitment to improving the country's policing architecture through technology, data utilization and citizen partnership.

Ogunlowo said the IGP has described 'Gateway Shield' as “a practical expression of our resolve to make security accessible, responsive and people-centred.”

"This is not just an app , it is a lifeline. We are leveraging smart technology to eliminate barriers between the public and the police, ensuring that help is always within reach".

The app connects users to bilingual agents at the Ogun State Police Digital Center, who swiftly process complaints and coordinate responses from the nearest Police unit.

It allows users to report incidents, track safety trends, and receive timely intervention across a range of issues , from property disputes and traffic violations to emergencies and violent crimes. It is powered by a 24/7 solar-enabled command center staffed by trained IT officers.

The IGP’s support for Ogun State Police Command has been consistent and strategic. In early 2025, he deployed Armoured Personnel Carriers to bolster operational readiness, following his commissioning of the modern state headquarters in 2024 with a pledge to transform the Command into a smart policing hub.

With Gateway Shield, Ogun State becomes a model for citizen-centric security, driven by innovation anchored on trust.
