Police Ready To Collaborate On Community Policing, Says IGP

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has assured that everything would be done by the police to ensure effective cooperation with the people through all cooperating organizations and security agencies to ensure that community policing works.

The focus of the Nigeria Police for now is community policing, how to ensure it is operational and effective, the IGP has said.

Reacting to the barrage of questions and requests from stakeholders at the Ogun State Police Command, Eleweiran , Abeokuta during his recent 3-day tour of the state, the IGP insisted that in this wise, the citizens becomes very important and central to the police.

He assured that everything would be done by the police to ensure effective cooperation with the people through all cooperating organizations and security agencies.

The IGP noted that the police is ready to extend its hand of partnership to all individuals, organizations, commands and agencies willing to help it make community policing effective.

On the anxiety of many on the growing instances of insecurity in Ogun State, Egbetokun noted that he felt their concerns and that the police is not folding its arms on the issue, adding that was one of his reasons for the state tour.

He however pointed out that despite instances of security breaches dotting the state, Ogun is still comparably peaceful and remained one of the least troubled states.

On the porousness of the nation's borders in the state, the IGP said the police is giving special attention to these areas hence police area commands have been granted for Ifo, Idiroko and Imeko.

He assured all stakeholders at the meet that all questions and requests would be treated as he had noted everything and promised not to sweep them under the carpet.

The stakeholders who had besieged Eleweiran, the state police command to welcome the IGP had had a field day, barraging Egbetokun with questions, requests and advice's. 

Many of them who praised the state Commissioner of Police,  CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha for effective policing of the state harped on kidnappings, land grabbing, ritual killings and cultism in the state.

Egbetokun who paid a three day working visit to Ogun State from Tuesday 16th April through the 18th of April 2024 had since gone back to Abuja.

While in Ogun, he paid a courtesy visit on the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, Akarigbo of Remoland, the Awujale of Ijebu land  and the Olu of Ilaro, the Paramount ruler of Yewaland.

While here, he also commissioned the newest building in the state police headquarters, the Technical intelligence unit and the complaint response unit, all in Eleweran. 

He also commissioned the OluKayode Egbetokun multipurpose hall in Oke ilewo and Event Center.
