A renowned educationist, the Provost of Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, Dr Rafiu Adekola Soyele has described the benefits derivable from a good and functional education as sacrosanct to the development of the country.
In his speech at the 25th convocation ceremony of the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta early this week, Dr Soyele noted that the entire developmental apparatus of the country revolves around functional education, noting that "that is why our institution as a teacher training College has suceeded in having full accreditation for all the 31 courses run at the NCE level".
The Provost further explained that, "owing to the high demand of the youths around us for University Education leading to the award of Bachelor's Degree, couple with the desire of the Federal Government to increase access to University Education, Federal College of Education Abeokuta has been running Courses through the center for undergraduates programmes in affiliation with some university in the country along with the 31 accredited courses at the NCE level.
He said the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta is sparing no stone unturned to accord priority to building the human capacity needs of the country by adequately equipping our products yearly, because no nation can grow and develop beyond the quality of education impacted in the citizens.
The Provost, however mentioned the challenges annually confronting colleges of education as dwindling new entrants which he described as alarming and urged that if not urgently addressed, it could result into scrapping NCE.
He therefore begged the Federal Government to urgently adopt the Dual-Mode System of education in the nation's colleges of education.
In the address delivered by The Executive Secretary, National Commission For Colleges Of Education, Professor Paulinus Chijoke Okwelle, he commended the Federal College Of Education, Abeokuta noting that it occupied a pride of space among all the colleges of education in the country, both public and privately owned.
He assured the college of Federal Government under the leadership of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu's support to the full growth and development of the country through educational policy that will advance the course of Nigerians.
The 25th convocation ceremony of the federal college of education Abeokuta gave fellowship award to four outstanding personalities for their meaningful contributions to the society, they are. The Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Saka Matemilola, Yeye Aremo Temitope Adeola, Dr Chidiebere Gedeon Osi and The immediate past Provost of the college Dr Ayodele Adebayo Ajayi.
