Ogun Popular Cleric On The Run Over Alleged Attendance At Same-Sex Wedding In Ibadan

A popular Ogun State-based clergyman, Pastor Anthony Emmanuel Ebehi, has been declared wanted by the police following his alleged involvement in a same-sex wedding ceremony recently held in the Dugbe area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The cleric, who is now at large, was said to be wanted for allegedly officiating at the controversial wedding.

Nigeria does not recognise same-sex marriages as the country has long prohibited the act and stipulated stiffer penalties, including imprisonment, for people found guilty of such act.

According to available reports, police operatives raided the venue during the same-sex wedding ceremony and arrested several attendees. Some others reportedly fled the scene and have remained at large.

Sources revealed that Pastor Ebehi was among the invited guests at the event. His presence has reportedly caused shock and confusion among members of his congregation.

When our correspondent visited the church premises the following Sunday, it was observed that attendance had significantly dropped.

One of the church elders, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the situation as a “sad moment” for the church. The elder also claimed the pastor had fled the country to avoid arrest, adding that the police are still actively searching for him.

It was further learnt that all those apprehended at the 'wedding' venue were taken to the Orita Police Station and subsequently charged to court.
