The Board Chairman of Federal Medical Center Abeokuta, Dr AbdulAziz Mahuta jas confirmed the illegal promotion and recruitment exercise allegedly carried out by the Medical Director of the Center, Prof Adewale Musa-Olomu without any reference to the Hospital Board.
Speaking with Our Correspondent in a Telephone interview, Dr Mahuta said the Board was not part of the process that saw to the recruitment and promotion of some staff as protested to by some 'concerned staff of the Center'.
It could be recalled that last week, a national Newspaper reported that Some Staff of Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta petitioned the Head of Service of Federation over the alleged promotion exercise carried out by the Center's Medical Director, Professor Adewale Musa-Olomu.
The Petition dated 16th of February, 2022 and copy of which was sighted by our Correspondent requested for proper investigation of the promotion exercise carried out by the Medical Director without following due process.
The petition which was addressed to the Head of Service of the Federation, and also copied the Board Chairman Dr AbdulAziz Mahuta alleged that the exercise was fraught with fraud.
"We write as concerned staff of Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta that Professor Adewale Musa-Olomu, the Medical Director of Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta be investigated over the December 2021/January 2022 illegal promotion that took place in the Centre despite the non-approval of the year 2022 Manpower Budget of the Centre by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation since the office noted that over 1, 700 staff were illegally recruited by the Centre.
But over the weekend, the Center Public Relations Officer, Segun Orisajo debunked the story saying that the promotion exercise was legal.
"The Board of Management of Federal Medical Centre Idi-Aba Abeokuta has debunked a newspaper report which accused the Centre of illegal promotion and recruitment of workforce.
The Daily Times Newspaper in its 17th February, 2022 edition had alleged that the Centre committed an infraction in its December 2021 / January, 2022 promotion exercise and illegal recruitment of personnel.
Reacting, however, the Board explained that contrary to the newspaper report on illegal promotion, the Centre simply conducted a placement exercise in line with a directive from the IPPIS where staff salaries are being paid.
Similarly, the Board absolved the Centre of complicity in any recruitment exercise explaining that what the Centre did was migration and not employment.
But in his reaction to the statement by Orisajo, the Board Chairman, Dr AbdulAziz Mahuta said the Hospital Management Committee never authorized the issuance of the Statement, adding that the recruitment and promotion exercise was fraudulently done
"It was done without the knowledge and approval of the Board. We did not authorize anybody to conduct such an exercise, so it was illegal.
"When the Board met, we challenged those who authorized such an exercise, and set up Hospital Management Committee to look at those who wrote the petition, sit down with them and see what are their grievances.
He said further that "It is their right to write petition anonymously, there is a document from the office of the Head of Service of Federation to that effect. Nobody is querying them for writing an anonymous petition, but what we want to know is what are their grievances. If it is a thing we can handle within the Board, we will do it.
"But for the spokesperson of the Hospital to have come out that he is speaking for the Board, it's a lie, I have specifically instructed that he should be queried.
"What Daily Times reporter wrote was the right thing, we never authorise the whole process, But the Medical Director said he was the one who authorised the spokesperson to write rejoinder, we also asked the Medical Director where he got the order to speak for the Board. Daily Times reporter was right in the report".
