Some concerned members of All Progressives Congress in Odeda Local government area of Ogun state, have petitioned the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun over what they termed as illegal adoption of an aspirant as the flagbearer of the party in the forth coming local government election in the Local government.
The petitioners expressed their displeasure over the undemocratic moves by a few supposed leaders of the Party during and after the last screening exercise to choose the Candidates for the coming local government election.
They appealed to Prince Abiodun to dismiss the kangaroo adoption of one Semiu Bola Lawal illegally adopted by only two aspirants out of eight that showed during the screening.
"It will interest your Excellency, to know that about fifteen leaders from the local government, among them, the State chairman of our Party, Chief Yemi Sanusi, Senator Gbenga Obadara, the Chief of staff the state government, Hon Shuaib Salisu, the State commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, a technocrat of note, a former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon Ajibola Ogunsiji and Apostle Biodun Sanyaolu were members of the selection committee saddled with the responsibility of selecting candidates, for the Party in Odeda local government, as done in other local governments in the state.
"However, the selection committee unanimously agreed to choose a five member screening committee chaired by Hon Ajibola Ogunsiji with others, Mr Boye Oyadina, Dr Tomi coker, Hon M.O. Saka and Mr Haruna Majekodunmi to do the screening of our chairmanship aspirants to avoid complexities.
"The screening which was adjudged free and fair was done in a conducive atmosphere, with members of the screening committee scoring the aspirants individually. The result of the screening as we were made to know showed that Mr Musiliu Akindele scored 35, Mr Ayorinde 29, Mr Dotun Shofela 28, Mr kehinde 28, and Semiu Bola lawal 27.
"Other results showed that Olaiya Nurudeen, garnered 26 Marks, Babatunde Taiwo 25 Nifowora Titus 14, while Adewale Kuyoro scored 11.
"The Party members then write to inform you that the screening committee concluded it's report and was about to present it to the selection committee when a member of the screening committee, Haruna Majekodunmi raised an objection that an aspirant, Semiu Bola Lawal, believed to be his candidate was scored 1 by a member of the screening committee.
Given more insight into thier petition, they added that, aside from Semiu Bola Lawal that was given 1 mark by a member of the screening committee, two other aspirants among them, Akindele Musliu were scored 1 and 2 respectively by the committee members without any objection from any member of the committee signalling to the fact that some members of the committee were just an upright in their approach to the exercise.
"Your Excellency, the objection raised by Haruna Majekodunmi snowballed into pandemonium with anxeity and fear enveloping the venue of the screening. Political thugs were imported to the venue, with the development, forcing the postponement of the presentation of the report for the fear of the unknown .
"But to our chagrin and consternation two elders, namely, Fajimi and Ogundipe, who went to a Church belonging to Elder Fajimi and claimed to have adopted Bola Lawal, a.k.a Sembol as APC candidate without carrying other eminent party Elders along .
"This to us, is tantamount, to coup d'etat, and we urge your Excellency, to wade into the issue as our leader and governor.
"The action of these two elders are dishonourable and shameful, as it is capable of further, polarising the party in the state.
"In our capacity as members of Party in the Local government, who are committed to the enthronement of rule of law, public accountability and transparency as evident in your Excellency’s government, we are compelled to draw your attention to the humiliating conduct of these two leaders in our local government.
“We hereby implore Your Excellency to sample public opinion on these distrustful leaders and their ‘candidates’ and also to dismiss the kangaroo adoption, while instructing all aspirants to go for the option given by the party – direct primary election.”
