An Ogun State High Chief, Chief Tajudeen Sodiya, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police against his alleged illegal detention by the men of anti fraud unit in Alagbon, Ikoyi Lagos.
Sodiya, who is the Baale of Adekoyeni village and Baajito of Egbaland, while alleging the police officer at Ikoyi of conniving with some land grabbers called on the IGP to call for thorough investigation of the matter.
The traditional ruler said he was being detained illegally by the police for alleged case of unlawful possession of firearms, attempted murder and criminal assault brought against him.
Sodiya in a two page petition written by his counsel, Fazazy Segun Daud of FS Daud chambers, a copy of which was obtained by our Correspondent, expressed his dissatisfaction with the conduct of the Officers for his continuous detention without court order.
The detainee also alleged that despite the order of a Lagos magistrate court that he should be released since 25th September, 2020 pending thorough investigation into the matter, the police continue to detain him.
The petition which was also sent to the AIG, Zone 2, and the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Sodiya pleaded for his immediate release from detention while also calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.
The petition read, “It is important to express our Clients dissatisfaction with the conduct of the Officers from Anti–FraudUnit, (FORCE C.I.D.) Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, and the continuous detention of client, Chief Tajudeen Adisa Sodiya since 22nd September, 2020, till date without court’s order.
“It is obvious to our client that the landgrabbers have succeeded in manipulating the Officers from Anti–Fraud Unit, to perpetually keep our client behind the bars without court order, a special script written by one Mr Adewale Adebayo and his landgrabbers, which is currently playing out at the unit.
“Mr Adewale Adebayo and his agent, Dele Soluade have come to seek for protection under Anti-fraud Unit, in other to cover up the crime which they perpetrated on the 27th August, 2020, purposely to stop the AIG Zone 2, Onikan, to carry out thorough
investigation on the earlier petition written by our Client.
“The current photographs showing as hot person with bloodstains upon which the Anti-Fraud Unit is investigating, submitted by Mr.Adewale Adebayo with respect to the Allegation of shooting, had earlier been submitted by the same Adewale Adebayo and his sponsor agent, Mr Dele Soluade at Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos, in the earlier petition of criminal trespass to property written by the Command Staff Welfare Association, Nigerian Army, Ajasa, Ipaja, Lagos, against them.”
“Upon further findings however, Mr Dele Soluade confessed to the Police in writing, in my presence that those photographs showing as hot
person were false and that they deliberate presented the photographs to mislead the police.
“Having pleaded with Police and opted for settlement, the same Mr. Adewale Adebayo, now run to the Anti-Fraud Unit, Alagbon, Lagos, to use the same photographs to write another petition, with the photographs attached purposely to incriminate our client and which necessitated our counter petition dated 18th September, 2020, written Anti–Fraud Unit, Alagbon.
“However, the officers have refused to carry out any investigation on our counter petition. I have personally met with ASP Taofeek Surakat (officer in charge of TEAM 3) requesting that a signal be raised for the entire file of the Command Staff Welfare Association, Nigerian Army, Ajasa, Ipaja, Lagos,
handled by D6 section, Zone 2, Onikan, purposely to clear our client of the masterminded plan of shooting.”
“But the officer has refused, failed or neglected to carry out our request
and continued to detain Chief Tajudeen Adisa Sodiya since 22nd September 2020, till date.”
The Chief further alleged that while he was being detained the alleged land grabbers were laying ambush to harass and intimidate the people of the community with the help of Police.
