Crisis loom in Ogun Community over threat to burn down worship center by suspected land speculators
Some Islamic leaders in Ijoko-Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of Ogun state have petitioned the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun to urgently call to order some people allegedly led by the monarch of the town, Oba Abdulfatai Alani Matanmi over threat to burn the Ijoko-Ota Central mosque and any of their followers on Friday.
The Islamic leaders explained that Oba Matanmi and three other collaborators, Mikail Bajela Ajisefuni, Tajudeen Olaiya and Murtala Olugbesan claimed their forefathers owned Ijoko and unless they were ready to be paying them royalties every Friday after Jumat service, they would not allow anyone to observe Jumat prayer.
The Muslim Clerics in a petition to the Ogun state Commissioner of Police signed by Chief Imam Ijoko-Ota, Alhaji Uthman Salaudeen and Mufasir Ijoko-Ota Central mosque, Alhaji Muhydeen Amodu further alleged that the monarch had earlier threatened to take over the Eid Muslim praying ground.
They said he prevented them from observing the last Eid-el-kabir prayer, but his action was rebuffed by the youths of the town.
They however, called on the Police, DSS and other security agencies to protect them from any form of attack from the monarch and his thugs during tomorrow's Jumat prayer at the Central mosque.
"it is with fear that we write to inform you that a very serious crisis is brewing in Ijoko-Ota, in Ado-Odo Ota local government area of Ogun state. Two days ago, we received a threat from one Alani Matanmi and his collaborators, Mikail Bajela Ajisefuni, Tajudeen Olaiya and Murtala Olugbesan of their intentions to overrun the Ijoko Central Mosque on Friday, 18th September, 2020.
"They claimed their forefathers owned Ijoko and unless we are ready to be paying them every Friday after the Jumat service, they will not allow any mosque to observe Jumat prayer in Ijoko-Ota town and nothing will make them change their minds.
"Earlier, this Alani Matanmi had taken over a property of an old man and converted to a private mosque, and boasted that no one can do anything for him.
"As this Friday is drawing closer, we are now calling on the security agencies, for the protection of our lives and our Central mosque as these people have warned us to stay away from the mosque as the mosque will be set ablaze along with other Muslim faithfuls in Ijoko-Ota.
"In view of this, we are appealing to you to please use your good office to protect our lives and Ijoko-Ota Central mosque."
