A group, Coalition of Ogun West Youths Association (COYA), on Tuesday joined other eminent personalities from Yewa Awori zone of the State to ask the Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to right the wrongs the zone has suffered since the creation of the state by establishing Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH), in the senatorial district instead of Abeokuta.
COYA during a press briefing in Abeokuta, the state capital argued that the absence of a university institution in the district had in no small measure denied its indigenes from acquiring university education.
In the address read by its National Coordinator, Wale Olanrewaju, the group further noted that both Ogun East and central have high number of higher institutions sited in their areas, leaving only the west to play ‘third-class’ citizenship role.
The group wondered why a socio-cultural and economic pressure group, Abeokuta Club, would be agitating for the university to be sited in Abeokuta, which already has almost 40-year old Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) as well as the Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB).
"Beyond our stories of marginalization from the west, happenings in the state's socio-political space in recent days have made it clear to all that the west has not been crying wolf where none exists".
COYA said , "Aside the MAUSTECH issue which has revealed that there is that attempt truly, to keep Yewa Aworis down and deprived of development, the issue of ministerial appointment as it affects Ogun State has been another clear display of proof of marginalization against Ogun West".
"Since the nation's return to democracy, no one in Ogun West has been pushed up by the power that be in Ogun State for ministerial position at the federal level".
"The same thing just happened again".
"Yes our Governor did promised fairness but the fact that it was not an Ogun West person that was screened last week in Abuja to represent Ogun State as minister of the federal republic is a negative signal to Ogun Westerners.
'Ogun West people are as qualified for the position as anyone from other senatorial districts".
"How can the senatorial districts that have repeatedly been ruling the state as Governors and have been occupying critical state's cabinet positions be presenting ministerial candidates back to when Ogun West has not presented one"?
"It is clearly a bad signal and a negative on Ogun State democratic credential. It is unfair, unjust undemocratic and should not have happened in the state of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo".
